My project is about how Parisian couture pattern cutting and garment construction techniques were adopted or adapted by manufacturers and dressmakers to enable larger scale production of couture garments in postwar Australia. I examined and documented garments from the period that were made in Parisian and Sydney-based ateliers, comparing techniques then testing them through the process of creating this contemporary garment prototype in a handwoven silk from a village in north-eastern Thailand.
